Gyda'n Gilydd

Families First Service is changing in Gwynedd!

The Families First programme in Gwynedd has been restructured and has been operational since the 1st of April, 2018. The Team Around the Family staff (formerly known as Gyda’n Gilydd) are still in post and will continue to provide co-ordinated,early intervention and prevention support to families across all areas and communities in Gwynedd. The aim of the programme continues to be to reduce the number of families developing needs that are more complex in the future, therefore requiring more intensive and costly interventions.

The main changes are:

·         There are now 3 integrated Families First Support Teams (FFST) being developed (Arfon, Meirion and Dwyfor). These will offer intensive support to families, lead by a Team Around the Family Co-ordinator who will offer both an assessment, planning and co-ordination function (as was previously the case).

·         The FFST will also comprimise of Family Support Workers who will be able to offer direct support with parenting and young people, as well as practical assistance. Barnados will provide this Service in Meirionnydd.

·         There will be a youth worker assigned to each team who will be able to concentrate on improving the outcomes for 11-25 year olds.

·         The disability component will continue to  to develop specialist Services and up-skill mainstream workers so that Services provided through this element of the programme meet the needs of families with children with disabilities.

Families open to a co-ordinated service will also have priority access to a suite of aligned services funded through Families First which include:

  •  Counselling and other theraputic services and programmes for young people, parents and families (mild to moderate needs)
  • ·         Family Group conferencing and mediation (Y Bont).
  • ·         Advocacy for young people (NYAS).
  • ·         Support for improving young people’s speech, language and communication (where the communication needs are not related to speech and language disorder which is funded through BCUHB).
  • ·         A preventative worker within the Youth Justice Team.

There will be close collaboration with other early intervention and prevention teams such as Flying Start, Youth Justice Preventative team, IFSS, Edge of Care Team, Youth Services, Healthy Child Programme Wales (Health), Youth Engagement and Progression Support (Trac / Adtrac), School Engagement Programme and T4CYP (Health).

What to do if you want to refer a family:

·         There is a new regional referral form for both statutory and Families First referrals. This is attached below.

·         All referrals to the new Families First programme will need to be sent to the newly developed Children and Families IAA (information, Advice and Assistance), which is Team Derbyn Cyfeiriadau.

·         All referrals will be screened and managed by the IAA Team. Referrals can be sent electronically to . They can also be contacted on 01758 704455.

·         Eligible referrals will be allocated to a Team Around the Family Co-ordinator. Following an assessment of a family’s needs, the co-ordinator will refer to services within Families First, aligned services or other agencies.

We understand that this period of change is difficult for everyone and we therefore welcome any questions you may have about the new programme.

Your referrals are very important to us and we would be glad of any opportunities to come and out and have a chat with you about the Families First programme in any team meetings you may have.

If you have any enquiries about a family who is already receiving team Around the Family support, please contact the Team Around the Family on 01286 678824.

Thanks everyone!

However, we are settling in well in our new home and appreciate the warm welcome we have received from staff. Our new address is: canolfan Plas Pawb, Maesincla, Caernarfon. Ll55 1DF.

Ffion Williams (Dwyfor)has moved from Felin Fach and is now located within the Children’s Team in Ffordd y Cob, Pwllheli.

Nia Evans (Meirionnydd Co-ordinator)  will be staying in Penarlag in Dolgellau.

 New staff:

Welcome to Deian Rhys Jones who has joined the Families First Team. Deian will located in the new IAA and will be mainly dealing with Families First referrals. He brings with him a wealth of information and experience and most recently worked for Gisda.

Over the next few months:

We hope to come and see as many of you as possible to promote the new programme and answer any questions you may have.

on Continue to work closely with partners in the third sector and a variety of services and agencies to ensure that ‘childrern and their families are at the centre of everything that we do’.
