Schools

There are 103 primary schools, 14 secondary schools and 3 special schools in Gwynedd. There is detailed information about the Education Service and a page about each school available on Gwynedd Council's Website, as well as a link to ESTYN reports on individual schools. A full list of schools, arranged by Secondary school catchment area is available, as is a Gwynedd schools calendar including full details of term dates and holidays.

All schools in Gwynedd accept male and female pupils. All secondary schools are 11 -18 community schools apart from the Meirioneth/Dwyfor area where the secondary schools are 11 – 16 community with the post 16 provision at Coleg Meirion Dwyfor tertiary college (all except Ysgol y Berwyn, Bala). The majority of primary schools are also community schools but a small number of schools are linked to the Church in Wales or the Catholic Church some of which are voluntary controlled schools, and a smaller number being Voluntary Aided schools.

Gwynedd Council operates a bilingual policy throughout the schools so that all students have the necessary language skills to enable them to be full members of the bilingual community they are a part of.
